This is a lovely pattern for a very easy starter project for either knitting or crocheting a baby blanket. Perfect as a gift for the new arrival, or a low stress one to make in pregnancy !

KNITTING: There are 2 knitted designs-or three if you make the very simple blanket without the embroidered teddy (which was a logo from the yarn!).The teddy is embroidered onto the finished blanket in a duplicate stitch (or Swiss darning), so you could just leave the blanket plain and simple, or add other small motifs, bows etc. as you wish.

The other knitted blanket is in an easy lace pattern with just 4 rows, 2 of which are exactly the same. This produces just enough texture for warmth and prettiness without being too fussy and is safe for tiny fingers. This design would be perfect in a cotton based yarn too.

CROCHET: The crochet blanket is made in rounds from a central motif, with a textured bobble pattern worked in with the plain crochet background.

I have expanded and enlarged the original pattern text so each blanket has its own page.

PLEASE NOTE: although standard UK DK (light worsted/8ply) yarn is used -it is used DOUBLE. With modern soft chunky and bulky yarns you may find a single thread of one of these is easier to work with and will give a neater finish. Look for a match to the tension given on the yarn label. As a blanket the specific size is less important than the texture.
