SEWING: A perky Dora dachshund toy dog to sew, from this vintage toy sewing pattern.

This cute doggie is made from a pattern given in a vintage weekly “woman’s own” magazine. It was intended for Christmas gift making (I have other lovely retro toys from the publication*).

Dora is sewn in felt (with turned seams) and she has movable limbs attached with a button and thread, for a charming vintage styling. However the legs can be sewn in position if preferred. Woven fabric can be used if you allow a larger seam; she would look terrific in wool or tweed.

The original diagram for the pattern would have been drawn by hand, initially; then you would have had to redraw and enlarge it to produce your own pattern. However I have included 2 sizes of the enlarged diagram to save you the bother (as well as the original image, which was less than 10cm in width!)or you can use the smaller one to produce an enlargement to the size you wish. Made to a 1inch scale she is approx. 14 inches (45cm) long and 10(25cm) high, but she can be made smaller as you wish.

* See the Penelope and Prudence knitted dolls, “Puss”cat in retro florals and Bob bear, a lovely tweedy teddy.
