KNITTING: This is a nice pattern; quirky and unusual, for knitting little “Jolly Jo-Jo”, a boy doll from the 1980s. To me he looks like a storybook “burglar bill” character. He may well be a specific cartoon character– do let me know if you know of him.

With his sunglass resembling an eyemask and traditional caricature stripy burglar top he seems to follow that traditional stereotype. However you can make the basic doll shape and face however you like; I would probably leave off sunglasses... but in the UK we don’t need them much!

He predates the popular modern big head amigurumi look—but his head is a tad on the large side. Combined with the placement of his features it gives an appealing look that you can copy with confidence; many vintage 60s/70s dolls have horrible cross-eyed faces.
