KNITTING:  A very vintage (1940s) toy penguin knitting pattern with his (sewn) fish. This little Peter Penguin pattern has such nostalgic wording from the forties; referring to his “fish ration” and with helpful ideas for “waste” filling. They must have been quite dense little chaps, full of old stockings and knitting scraps!!

He is shown at about 10-11 inches high in ‘4 ply’ but the gauge of 26 st to 10 cm on the vintage size 9 needles is closer to a modern DK ( light worsted ) -although a finer yarn will give a smaller penguin of course.

He is a good penguin shape regardless of size, with quite  a realistic look to him (woolly texture aside) and good clear row by row instructions.

Instructions are also given for the size and “how to” of the stitched fish… but you are on your own with the “fish shape” LOL.
