KNITTING: A very cute knitting pattern for some characterful little toys from the sixties called “Animals on Parade”. These are easy chunky little shapes to knit; and then they can be customized into creatures however you like. The original magazine choice was for a Panda, a Teddy,  a Mouse or Mice, a Cat; popular toy shapes then as now. You may want to add a bunny or fox interpretation for today’s favourites - or some other creature you like!  There seem to be several variations of these creatures in StitchCraft and other magazines. They predate, but are similar to, the current amigurumi style. However they are quite flat rather than rounded - and so even easier to make) the faces are added with appliquéd felt but you could embroider faces or use buttons etc. or even try a little intarsia! They are approx 11” (28cm) when made with double knit (worsted) yarn on 3mm needles (old UK 11, and US either a 2 or 3 as there is no exact equivalent size). They use approx 50g total each; so are great stashbusters!
